It has officially been one week since our lifestyle overhaul began. It has been a major success and I couldn't be happier. We had our official weigh in last night and here are our results:
My progress: I've lost 5lbs since last week for a total of 13lbs lost...I'm now at 213lbs.
11.7% of my goal complete.
Shane's progress: He's lost 6lbs since last week for a total of 15lbs lost...he's at 294, yay! Officially under 300!
11.5% of his goal complete.
I also want to share with everyone the amazing deal we found out about thanks to a thread over on Reddit at r/fitness. Apparently Blue Cross Blue Shield has a partnership program through Blue365 with Healthways to provide multi-gym memberships for only $25/person per month!
With Healthways, there is a $25 signup fee and a three month initial term required, and after that, absolutely no contracts! The best part is you can go to ANY of the 8,000+ nationwide participating gyms! We were already planning on getting a YMCA membership for $90/month, so this saves us $40/month. I looked at the gym participation map and there are about 30 gyms within a 15 mile radius of us, including all the YMCAs, Snap Fitness, and Anytime Fitness. We can go to any of them at any time for no extra charge! We could gym-hop to every single one if we wanted to.
Not all BCBS plans cover Healthways, and not everyone has BCBS. But if you do, it's worth checking it out! Here's where to find out if you're eligible:
- Go to the Blue 365 website here : www.blue365deals.com, which is kinda like a Groupon for BCBS and all sorts of health, fitness, and even travel deals. Register for an account (this is how you find out if you're eligible).
- Once you're in, go to Browse Deals > Fitness and you'll be able to select the Healthways deal.
- This will redirect you to : https://fitnessyourway.healthways.com/, the separate Healthways site. Here you'll have to register for an additional Healthways account, but I promise you're almost done.
- Once you've got your payment set up and your temporary member card printed out, you're ready to go to the gym!
I'm so glad we found out about this awesome program, and I hope that Shane and I can make really good use of it. Not only are we saving a ton of money through this program, but we also have free reign of a ton of gym facilities around town. We have no excuse not to go.
